HOW TO PLEASE AND PRAY TO LORD SHIVA

How to Please and Pray to Lord Shiva

There are several Shaiva traditions within Hinduism, and each tradition prays to and seeks to please Lord Shiva according to its respective teachings. It is also essential to consider that the way one prays to and pleases Mahadeva can vary based on the beliefs and devotional practices of each person, including those who are devotees of the Lord but do not belong to any specific religion.

Among tradition and personal worship, we can highlight some guidelines practiced throughout time:

1. Regular Time and Appropriate Location

Choose a place in your home, garden, or in nature where you can be quiet and not be interrupted during your prayer or devotional practice.

  • The Environment: It should be clean. You may also use incense or an essential oil diffuser as a way to please the Lord and make the environment more comfortable.

  • The Timing: You can choose any time; it does not matter if it is day or night. What matters most is your dedication to the activity.

2. Take Care of Your Hygiene

Before starting your devotional activities, take a bath. If a full bath is not possible at that time, wash your face, hands, forearms, and feet. Wear comfortable clothes—cool fabrics if the day is very hot.

3. Offerings to Lord Shiva

You may build an altar or obtain a Shiva-linga if you feel it is appropriate. You can also have an image or a painting of Shiva. Even if you do not have these items, you can offer:

  • Items: Flowers, ripe fruits, sweets, or light a traditional lamp called a Diya or a candle.

  • Abhisheka: Over the Shiva-linga, you may offer pure water or milk.

  • Intention: Offer what you feel is important and suitable for your relationship with God.

4. Chanting Mantras and Songs

On the Internet and YouTube, you can find many mantras and devotional songs dedicated to Lord Shiva. You can sing along or simply listen with attention and reverence. Over time, you will learn to chant the mantras correctly.

The Key Mantra: The most prominent and significant is the Panchaakshara: Om Namah Shivaya. You can repeat it 108 times every day. It doesn't take long, and with time, it becomes very pleasant and grants many benefits.

5. Meditation

Forget the idea that meditation leads to a total absence of thoughts or makes a person “travel” to faraway, enchanted places.

  • Focus: When you finish chanting the mantras, sit comfortably and keep your focus on Lord Shiva. It is on Mahadeva that you should meditate.

  • Visualization: Visualize the form of the Lord, admire His qualities, and immerse yourself in "Daddy's" Love.

6. Gratitude

There is no healthy spirituality in a soul that does not feel and demonstrate gratitude. Upon concluding your prayers, offerings, and mantras, express gratitude to Mahadeva for all the guidance, blessings, protection, peace, and affection He has always granted you. Be thankful for everything you deem important.

Intimacy with the Divine

Each person has their own unique love for Lord Shiva. Everyone has their own consciousness, their own way of thinking, and feeling. Blessings and challenges are different for every life on Earth, and the Lord knows and understands this better than we do ourselves.

Thus, every son and daughter of Lord Shiva has their own feelings, thanks, challenges, and dreams to bring in prayer to "Daddy." It is about the consciousness, individuality, intimacy, and love of each life before God. Open your heart humbly to Lord Shiva, maintain sincerity and respect, remembering that, in truth, the only offering that truly gladdens the Lord is your Love.
